The Chevy Silverado is the great American Icon of pickup trucks and I cant see it losing this reputation anytime soon. The first Chevy pickup was available in 1918 but it wasnt until 1930 that these were built ‘in house’. The C/K series [C10] were introduced in 1960 and from here to 1999 the names Silverado, and GMC Siera, were used soley to identify a particular trim option that was available. The C was 2 wheel drive while the K was the 4 wheel drive version. Both were available in a variety of load capacities, the heavier models with dual rear wheels.
In 1999 the C/K Series were replaced with the models named Chevrolet Silverado, and GMC Siera. As before these are available in either 2 or 4 wheel drive, and rated for various payload capacities from 1/2 to 31/2 ton. Cab configuration continued with the Single, Extended and Double cab versions.
