2016 Silverado Extreme Tow

2016 Silverado Extreme Tow
Here is a real test, a 2016 Silverado Extreme Tow test on a long hill with a 9,000lb trailer hitched behind.
This is a must see video for anyone who tows heavy loads and is considering a new tow truck.
While this 2016 Silverado has the 6.2l engine option so it had plenty of grunt it was still quite a tough test being an 8 mile long 7 degree hill reaching 11,000ft at the summit, along with a target time of just 8 minutes to complete the climb, starting from a standstill.
Heck that means the Chevy has to average 60mph while dragging 4 tons plus of trailer.
The commentary is interesting too with several comparisons being made to the F150 and the Dodge Ram pickups along the way.
I was impressed with the engine noise level in the cab as it would have been close to, or right on, its maximin RPM most of the way.
How did it go? Pretty good actually, from a standing start to top of the hill was 8 minutes 7 seconds so the average speed was just on the 60mph target.
Impressive considering the 9000lb trailer it was pulling, plus 2 passengers.
The auto behaved itself too, shifting mostly just between 2 ratios but couple times it did engage the next higher ratio then promptly changed its mind again. It is possible though the driver may have briefly eased off the throttle a bit.
With the throttle wide open all the way what would you expect the gas mileage to be? Answer is in the video
