Bob drives a $75 truck for 38 years, to work everyday. He bought this 1957 Chevy half-ton pickup 38 years ago for only $75, and has used it everyday since to go to work. He bought it with the idea if it would last him for about 4 years it would do him nicely. To have only paid $75 for it, it is probably fair to say it was in much the same condition as it is now but a few less miles up and not have so many rust holes.
This Chevy is now 58 years old, had done around 300,000 miles but that was like 40 years ago when the odometer gave up, and the ’57 Chevy is still going strong. Sure it is rusty, rattles a bit, is well ventilated and cold as in the winter months but it still goes and proves just how reliable some vehicles are. Sounds like it has the 6 cylinder engine, I wouldn’t try to guess how many of these engines Chevrolet would have made over the years, and I have heard mechanics say a good Chevy 6 always had a gudgeon pin rattle.
Now that Bob has retired wonder what will he do with the truck? I don’t know the answer to that but after all this time the Chevy is surely part of the family. I see in the video it has been the wedding car more than once, and probably served in other social and family events as well. If someone were to buy it as a restoration project can be sure it is original, will require heaps of work, and most certainly not owe Bob any money.
